Between 1500 and the early 1700s, nobles from Milan built villas as summer homes along the shores of Lake Como. Many of the villas had elegant gardens as the climate is conducive to tropical plants. Some of the villas are still privately owned. Some have been converted into B&Bs or vacation rentals. Others have been tranformed into museums.
Villa Carlotta was built in the early 1700s and is located on the west side of the lake opposite Bellagio. It is now a museum. Barb thought that the villa was as impressive as the Biltmore in Ashville, NC. We both thought the garden (several acres) was as impressive as the Butchart Gardens on Vancouver Island. The entry fee was 7 Euros for seniors.
