July 18 Euopean units, Stechelberg

As you know, Europe uses metric units:
1. Grocery items are priced by the kilogram (Kg) or 1/10th of a kilogram (100 grams). 1 Kg (1000 g) = 2.2 pounds.  100 g = 0.22 pounds.
So if peaches are 3.40 CHF per Kg, that is about 1.55 CHF per pound and since the exchange rate is close to 1 to 1, that is close to $1.55 per pound.
2. Gas is sold by the liter instead of the gallon. 1 gallon = 3.8 liters. So if gas is 1.45 CHF per liter, that is close to $5.50 per gallon (gas is expensive  here - that is why we leased a car that gets about 40 mpg). :-)
3. Distance is in kilometers. 100 km = 60 miles and 100 km/hr = 60 mph. So can you convert 50 km or 50 km/hr to miles and miles/hr?
4. Temperature is in centigrade instead of fahrenheit.
32 F = 0 C (freezing)
72 F = 22 C (room temperature)
90 F = 32 C (on the warm side)
.
Don and Pam joined us yesterday for our 3 nights in Hasliberg. After buying some groceries at the local village grocery and having some breakfast, we drove down into the Aare river valley through Brienz (pronounced Bree-ens) and along lake Brienz (Brienzer See) to Interlaken ("between the lakes"). Strolled some Interlaken shops and then drove to Lauterbrunnen, a village with high waterfalls a short drive south of Interlaken. Then drove a few more kilometes to Stechelberg at the end of the valley.
This region is popular with hang gliders and several were visible high above the valley. They ride the cable car to a high altitude where they can launch and ride the air currents.
Some pictures:

Do we have any orders?

Falls near Stechelberg. There were similar falls at Lauterbrunnen.

Hang gliding anyone?
Some were riding the air currents more than 1000 feet above the valley.

Switzerland has a network of hiking trails (wanderweg) that are well marked.
