Maienfeld and Bad Ragaz are neighboring villages in a region known as "Heidiland". They served as the setting for the fictional story of Heidi which was published in 1881. As one of the most beloved children's stories, it has been translated into more than 50 languages.
Heididorf (Heidi village) is a small group of buildings on the outskirts of Maienfeld with the "original" Heidi house (where Heidi lived with her grandfather), a souvenir shop, and a small museum with information about the author (Johanna Spyri).
Bad Ragaz is mentioned in the story when Klara is sent there for treatment and Heidi helps her regain her ability to walk.
Bad Ragaz with its mineral baths, has a long history as a healing spa. There is an elegant Grand Hotel there in a park like setting.
