Aug 16 Lake Walen and Quinten

Quinten and Au are two tiny villages on the north side of Lake Walen (Walensee) with a population of about 60. Because of the steep mountains rising up from the lake, there are no roads on the north side of the lake and Quinten is only accessible on foot or by boat. A boat runs from Murg on the south side of the lake to Au and Quinten every hour. A round trip ticket was $12. There is a smooth walking trail between Au and Quinten.

Quinten is the tiny village in the center
on the opposite shore. Au is to the right (not visible).

The area has ideal weather for vineyards.

The trail continues beside the steep mountain rising out of the lake.
The lake is 350 feet deep.

Approaching Quinten on the walking path.
It is a 3 hour walk to Quinten from either end of the lake.
The boat ride from Murg takes about 15 minutes.

Ice cream sundaes being delivered
to a nearby table ($12.50 each).
We were tempted to try one
but we are too chintzy.
(But not too proud to accept donations!) :-)
