Aug 12 Pisa and its leaning tower

Construction of the (leaning) tower of Pisa (the bell tower for the Pisa cathedral) was started in 1173. With a base only 3 meters deep on a clay base, the tower soon started to lean. Construction was halted and due to wars and other factors was not completed until the 1300s. Several efforts have been made to stabilize the tower but it still continues to lean ever slightly a bit more each year. Galileo, an astronomer, physicis, and mathemetician in the 1600s was born in Pisa and did some of his experiments on falling objects from the tower.
By chance, the B&B accomodations that Wayne and Nomi arranged for us in Pisa was within walking distance of the tower. Some views:

From the base up:

Some views looking away from the tower.

A few views from earlier in the day before
we left Tuscany for Pisa.

A 100+ year old cart used in the La Pacera vineyards.
The current owners great great grandfather
was the first owner of the 10 hecter (25 acre)
vineyard. This is a typical size for the vineyards
in  the region.

Each generation alternated the last name
Federigo and Federico.
