Treviso Italy, with BC origins is 26 miles north of Venice. Badly damaged from allied bombing in WWII, it has been rebuilt and regained much of its old city charm. The narrow cobbled streets are lined with modern marble flloored shops. There are 3 canals that run through the old city to the Sile river which gives it a bit of the flavor of Venice.
Treviso provides reasonably priced vacation apartments with good proximity to Venice and frequent trains running between the two cities (4 Euro pp each way).
