Sept 4 Villages near Cavedine and Castle Toblino

Cavedine and the neighboring villages are surrounded by steep mountains. The valleys are filled with vineyards and apple orchards. These views are from a 30 mile circle drive through the villages.

Old castle ruins in the village of Drena above the valley.
There are many ruins visible from the valley floor.

Valley vineyards
They pretty much blanket the valley.

Gate to an old villa (ruins barely visible on left).
It was probably quite elegant in its day.

Grape harvest will begin in a few weeks.

Mountain cliffs by the village of Arco
(old castle ruin on top)

Rock climbing is popular in this area.
We stumbled onto  a rock wall climbing venue in
Arco with a wall climbing contest in progress.

We huff and puff just walking up some of the paths.
Why would anyone want to do this?

Castle Toblino on the lake by the same name.
It has a romantic and mysterious history
(you can Google it).
It now houses a restaurant.

Entrance to the castle parking lot.

View from inside the entrance.
Not much clearance for cars but we squeezed through.

Doorway to a terrace by the lake.
Part of the lower court yard of the castle.

The terrace menu (had a coffee and shared a dessert).
The main (4 star) restaurant was in the castle
above the lake terrace.

Inside the castle reception area for the restaurant.

Some other views on the castle grounds.

View of a vineyard across the road from the castle.
