Sept 14 Vicenza

Vicenza is in northeast Italy 40 miles west of Venice. Like other ancient cities, the old city is a maze of narrow canyon like streets. The little blue dot on my tablet that shows our location as we walk helps us keep our bearings.
The city was heavily damaged by allied bombing during WWII and 2000 civilians perished. After the war, the citys economy was depressed for a time but in the 1960s it recovered and it is now a thriving community.
Parts of the old Roman Road were discovered during repairs of one of the old city churches after the war.

A plaque at the entrance to the city's old center.

Tower by the old city wall.

Modern shops line the streets in the old buildings.
Prices are similar to those in the USA.

Compared to Switzerland and Austria, the climate
is much dryer with summer temperatures similar to Nebraska.

Street side bakery and coffee shop.

For a morning break, a coffee Americano and a
cold coffee-cream with a chocolate croissant (5 Euro).

Other views in the old section of Vicenza.

Monument to architect Andrea Palladio.

Notes at the old theater courtyard entrance
about Andrea Palladio.
(Middle section is in English)

Some views in the old theater courtyard.

Being somewhat ancient ourselves, Barb and I
posed for a picture.

Other buildings  and views in the old city.

In a park just outside of the old city.

The gate to our apartment accomodations.
About 6 blocks from the old part of the city.

As in Nebraska, some flowers albeit not many.
